Two Firsts for Gosport United Reformed Church

Two members of the Youth Group were recently baptised at Gosport United Reformed Church St Columba. Both girls had chosen full immersion, so for the first time ever a portable baptistery, lent by a local Church of England church, was assembled and positioned at the front of the church.

The Baptism; which was conducted by Karen Tweed, Lay Preacher, was part of a service, led by Ruth White Children and Youth Development Officer Wessex Synod. It was a joyous celebration of faith attended by many friends and family as well as regular members of the church.

The newly formed Youth Band made their first public performance by leading part of the worship in an accomplished rendition of; ” How great is our God”

Listening to these girls telling us what had led them to become followers of Christ and singing out our praise to God with the youth band, was a reminder of the enormous privilege of sharing the gospel that is ours, through Jesus. We are grateful for the years this church has faithfully sown the seeds of faith through our work with children and young people and for the ongoing support Ruth White and The Wessex Synod have given us in doing so.. 

We may not always be the ones who get to welcome young people into our churches, but when we do it’s a great reason to celebrate!!
